Gozo: The Island of Calypso

  Comino
The waters are crystal clear with safe bathing for even the youngest children. The superb Blue Lagoon is not only excellent for swimming but also one of the most wonderful sights of the Maltese Islands.


  Calypso’s Cave
Close to Xaghra and overlooking the red sands of Gozo's finest beach, Ramla l-Hamra.Calypso's Cave is assumed by many to be the cave referred to by Homer in 'The Odyssey'.



  Ggantija
Megalithic temples near the village of Xaghra which are an outstanding example of the prehistoric monuments.



  Fungus Rock
At Dwejra on Gozo's southern coastline is a superb natural phenomenon. A huge rock which grows a rare plant that was for centuries kept under constant guard and anyone caught stealing it was instantly put to death.



  The Azure Window
On the top of two giant columns of rock each with a diameter of about 40 meters, rests a huge ledge of rock measuring about 100 meters in length and 20 meters in height. This forms a giant window.



  The ta' Kola windmill in Xaghra
Was built in 1725 and was financed by Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, is still in working order.



  Ta' Pinu Church
A Maltese name meaning 'Philip's', is the name of the man who looked after the old chapel in the 17th century.


  Ramla Bay
Ramla Bay is the largest sandy beach in Gozo and one of the most beautiful on the Maltese Islands. It lies below the traditional Calypso Cave. reaching ramla from the cave, by a steep pathway, is short and easy.
The bay lies in picturesque surroundings. It is flanked by hillside scenery with abundant vegetation.
The wide expanse of fine golden sand is splendid. The name Ramla is Maltese for sandy beach. The water is shallow, blue and safe for bathing.


  Reqqa Point
The elements have naturally carved out a beautiful and interesting island treasure around the coast at Reqqa Point. There are also salt pans carved in the rocks by the sea from which natural sea salt is collected.
