About
Gozo Gozo is Malta’s sister island which lies six kilometers off Malta. Today the small tranquil island covers an area of 67 square kilometers and has a population of 27,000. Gozo is one of the few remaining islands in the Mediterranean which is still un spoilt. This un spoilt little island offers a quiet and genuine place to get away from it all. If you want to just laze about, look for culture, take a walking tour, go for a good scuba dive in our crystal clear waters or explore the world’s oldest free-standing structures. Gozo has it all with a distinct character of its own. The countryside is prettier than that of its larger neighbors, the pace is slower and there are far fewer tourists. The island has its share of medieval architecture and prehistoric temples which makes it a great place to escape the tourism mill while experiencing the best of what the Mediterranean has to offer. The commercial centre of the island is Victoria that has a sleepy 17th-century feel. The view from the top the Victoria Citadel or 'Gran Costello' takes in the entire island. You can retrace the footsteps of Ulysses at Calypso's Cave in the cliffs overlooking Ramla Bay on the northeastern coast. Other spelunking opportunities include the underground Alabaster Caves in the tiny town of Xaghra just a couple of kilometers southwest of Ramla Bay. The Ggantija temple complex is also in Xaghra. The people are welcoming and friendly with a countryside that is both dramatic and picturesque and if you want to get away from it all, you can. It has all the essential ingredients that make it an ideal holiday destination. Even if you are there for a short visit, it is easy to see why Gozo has become known as the undiscovered paradise. The charm of Gozo is apparent the moment you arrive. Greener more rural and smaller than Malta. Life on Gozo moves at a leisurely pace. The rhythms dictated by the seasons. Fishing and agriculture in winter. In spring the Island is covered with flowering herbs and lush crops. In summer it’s awash with oleander, bougainvillea and geranium. Its rugged landscape and spectacular coastline await exploration. Choose from rocky inlets to red sand beaches or sail, snorkel, dive and fish. Gozo has some of the best dive sites in the world. But there’s more Gozo also comes complete with historical sites, forts and amazing panoramas, not to mention a nightlife, cultural calendar and some great dining out. Every village has unique parish churches and farmhouse villas.
Gozo is tranquil yet in touch with the world. International airlines run
services to Malta International Airport which is linked to Gozo. There
is a brisk year-round helicopter service link between Malta and Gozo,
but most visitors still arrive on Gozo the traditional way by boat. It
is a 25-minute trip by ferry from the Port of Cirkewwa at the northern
tip of Malta. All you have to do is book your flight and we do the rest. |
